NACHA Operating Rules & Guidelines
The NACHA Operating Rules & Guidelines (Rules) is the premier source of information governing the exchange and settlement of transactions through the ACH Network. The Rules are fully updated annually to include new Rule amendments approved prior to the time of publication.
The NACHA Operating Rules comes in two editions, with four formats offered for each.
Regular - for financial institutions, third-party processors and payment providers. Includes the NACHA Operating Rules & Guidelines.
Corporate - for companies involved with ACH transactions. This edition helps to identify new opportunities to leverage the ACH Network for business-to-business and customer-to-business payments.
The Rules are part of the Regular and Corporate editions and include the legal framework for the ACH Network, and the basic obligations of each ACH Network participant. Additionally, the included appendices contain details on Rules enforcement, annual audit requirements, a complete table of return reason codes and formatting specifications.
The Guidelines expands on the Rules, providing complete discussions of each ACH Network participant type and its role and responsibilities, detailed overviews of the Standard Entry Class Codes and use-case examples in special topic areas, such as Third-Party Service Providers. The Regular edition Guidelines is topped off by appendices containing samples of required forms and disclosures, as well as quick reference charts.
The full Guidelines are included with the Regular edition. The Corporate edition contains excerpts from the Guidelines that are important to businesses such as the Originator role and obligations, as well as detailed overviews of the Standard Entry Class Codes.
